Welcome to the "CaloriesCount.com Brag Board." On this page, you have the opportunity to read accomplishments of others. This page is provided for personal messages only. WOW What a year it has been. Something "clicked" the day after Christmas last year after looking in the mirror and finally seeing myself as other people saw me. I weighed 185# and gaining with a large middle. At 5'7" and 53 years old I was on the edge of being obese. But by watching my calories and plently of exercise (walking, jogging and bicycling) I was able to trim my weight by 35# in four months. But what is wonderful is that I have turned a new leaf in my life and still after all this time have maintained my total weight loss. Thank you CaloriesCount for helping me watch those calories and giving me inspiration. I FEEL GREAT with reduced blood pressure and cholesterol. I can't wait for 2004. For those of you on the way to weight loss, just keep it up. Keep doing the things you know are right. You will be rewarded in the end. Doug Doug <dlglu@hotmail.com> MI - Sunday, December 07, 2003 at 23:07:00 (EST) I'm getting closer to my goal. Today I weigh 150. I actually started changing my eating habits and exercising the day before Thanksgiving 2002. I weighe 225 at that time. I actually started CaloriesCount.com on 12/31/02. And what a wonderful website. By New Year's Eve I was down to 210. The food diary is the best tool to keep on track with. In Oct. I went on vacation to SC to visit my sister and kept a food diary while I was gone just to make sure I didn't get too far off my eating plan. To my amazement I only gained 3 pounds ,which I have subsequently lost. This is amazing, since last year when I visited her, I gained 12 pounds in 10 days!!!!! Just to encourage you all that go away from your home environment for vacation, the food diary is your best friend!! Also try to exercise while your away if it is walikng and not your usual exercise routine. Victoria L. Green <rfarrel2@nycap.rr.com> South Glens Falls, New York USA - Sunday, November 16, 2003 at 12:39:34 (EST) Hey Everyone in Weightloss Land! I joined this site on September 3/03 at 176lbs. It is almost 10 weeks later and I have come down to 160lbs! This is my pre-pregnancy weight that I came down to after each of my first 2 children, but couldn't seem to drop back to after my 3rd. I would like to get to 135 and now I really feel like I'm going to get there. This site has been so helpful, as have the people in the support chat group "Moms working on Weight Loss". I fit into most of my old clothes again (having lost 3 inches in my waist as well). I just want everyone who is working so hard to see that it is possible to have great success here. I had such a hard time trying to lose this weight before this, I'd work really hard, feel really deprived and maybe lose 2 lbs in 3 or 4 weeks and wonder what I was killing myself for. This time around, I don't feel deprived and the weight is coming off mostly at around 2 lbs a week. Other people are really starting to notice too. What a rush! To everyone working at it everyday, I salute you! Keep going, it'll happen! I am so near the 150's which I haven't been for about 7yrs, so when I see even 159 I will be dancin on the scale! Cheers! Lisa <lisa@grapeandgrain.ca> Winnipeg, MB Canada - Monday, November 10, 2003 at 17:06:19 (EST) I seriously started calories count in march of this year and am down 31 lbs. I cannot believe the energy and flexibility I have now. My yoga classes have never been easier now that the belly fat is going going gone (soon I hope). I have had to buy a new wardrobe thank you for this site... everyone keep the will strong and you will see the results. celebrate little steps that you may make, dont focus on the big ones... shannon <marvinthemartian@shaw.ca> coquitlam, bc canada - Friday, October 10, 2003 at 14:33:31 (EDT) I started the calories count. com about 2 weeks ago. Since I started I have lost 5 pounds. It is nice to see, but wish it would come off faster. 80 more pounds to go. Hang in there everyone, we are all on the same page.... connie <mncdutton@msn.com> Queen Creek, AZ USA - Saturday, August 30, 2003 at 19:21:20 (EDT) I joined calories count.com almost a year ago after my son (my first) left for college and I came to the realization that I had been struggling with my weight for nearly 25 years, ever since high school. I always seemed to be fighting the same 30-40 pounds. At 5'5" and 160, my weight wasn't that bad and I exercised some, but I wasn't happy. I joined calories count.com, used the Food Diary and menus and really committed to an exercise program. Nearly a year later I've lost 30 pounds and gone from a size 14 to an 8 (sometimes 6!). My body fat percentage has gone from 24% to 16%. What's most important though is that I'm fit and healthy. I lift weights 3 times a week, do kickboxing, spinning, yoga and pilates. I can now run 7 miles in an hour and have recently bought a road racing bicycle and taken up outdoor cycling. Today, for example, I rode 41 miles in 2 and a 1/2 hours. My goal is to participate in a triathlon next summer and maybe some cycling races. Next month I am planning on riding from my house in Waterville, OH to my parents house in Jackson, MI, some 105 miles. And next summer I'd like to take that a step further and plan a 5 day cycling trip from my house to my sister's house in Cheboygan, MI, 350 miles. I am even contemplating getting certified as a personal trainer and fitness instructor so that I can help others. I can't thank you enough for getting me started, giving me the tools and motivation to take charge of my life and finally get healthy and fit. And by the way, I am 43 years old, so if I can accomplish this level of health and fitness, I think anyone of any age can do it. Thanks again. Joan - Friday, August 29, 2003 at 16:46:24 (EDT) I lost 45 lbs. (from 185-140) beginning in July 2002 until about November 2002. I've been keeping it off pretty successfully, but wish I'd found this website a LONG time ago! It's always been my strategy that 'calories count' because anyone sensible knows that if you eat 3600 calories of ANYTHING, be it ice cream or broccoli, ABOVE the calories you need, you'll gain a pound. All this food combining, carb avoiding, strict dieting . . . it's all ridiculous. We burn calories as fuel and food is fuel! Anyway, I try to eat a good breakfast, sensible lunch & dinner, don't really snack much and walk 3 miles a day (in about 40 min.) EVERY day. I also do some light weights and stretching exercises (mostly to avoid osteoporosis) for 20 min. in the evening 5-6 times a week. I feel very proud of my progress, but sometimes really worry about backsliding! I see-saw 2 or 3 lbs regularly and it always seems to attach itself to my middle (or, as I call it, my "soft, creamy center"). I am currently a size 8-10 pant size (down from a 16) and really enjoy shopping now. I just need to find a way to whittle some off my middle! If anyone has any strategies I'd be happy to hear them! Sherry <rsthall@juno.com> Lyons, or USA - Friday, August 29, 2003 at 02:38:51 (EDT) I have a great idea for a healthy small breakfast or snack...it has turned breakfast into a meal I enjoy and keeps me feeling full until lunch. Do you also find that cereal seems to disappear in about two hours and you are hungry?? I know that they say fiber makes you feel full but...So I discovered huevos rancheros. .5cups of egg substitute scrambled into small chunks. Once cooked put over 1 ounce of low-fat tortilla chips. Add 2 tablespoons of salsa and 2 tablespoons of light or no fat sour cream. 250 calories and satisfying. Has helped me lose 3 pounds so far this week. Hope you can share some other successful recipes that keep you motivated. Good luck. Lynda <Lynda.Adams@sunysb.edu> Poquott, NY - Tuesday, August 05, 2003 at 13:00:17 (EDT) I have lost five pounds in one week. I didn't think I was eating so many calories until I started to keep track of them. Now I know why I am 30 pounds over weight. This is a great tool to help one to achieve their weight loss goals! Sharry Mack Davis <phoenixsmiles@cox.net> Phoenix, AZ 85032 - Saturday, August 02, 2003 at 13:50:36 (EDT) I started at 210 pounds on 12/31/02. As of today I weigh in at 161.At 5'4" I have a ways to go!! I experienced muscle pain and weakness as a result of lipitor and was unable to go to the gym for the pas 3 weeks and worried about my weight.Luckily for me I had the on line food diary to keep me on track with my eating. To my surprise I actually lost 2 pounds but now I am able to resume my exercise routine. If you find yourself in a situation where you temporarily cannot exercise, just remember to be cognisant of your intake and keep up your food diary. Thank You CaloriesCount.com for being there with support, education and food diary. Victoria L. Green <rfarrel2@nycap.rr.com> South Glens Falls, New York USA - Friday, August 01, 2003 at 15:48:08 (EDT) Hey all my calorie counting friends! I've got some good news to brag about. Down 20 lbs. since I joined CaloriesCount.com this past February. Going nice and slow and keeping the weight off (for the first time in years!). Got a loonnnggg way to go (or "weigh" to go as these guys like to say) and having a few gains to go w/ the losses but if anything has hit home from all the great articles and tools and advice on this site, it's to think long-term, stay steady as you go and don't expect quick results that you can't maintain. My waist is coming in, I feel healthier and more energetic, so I think my goals are realistic and thats very encouraging. I do admit I think CALORIES all the time (for my eating habits as well as my exercise) -- and the Calculator for one keeps me honest! Just wanted to say thanks for this Godsend, and all the best to all of you in the same boat as me. You'll hit some rough waters but hang in there cuz it's smooth sailing ahead (and improved health of course!!). Carter Greene Rockville, MD USA - Monday, July 14, 2003 at 12:07:06 (EDT) I joined caloriescount.com in the beginning of Jan over 6 months ago. I had started to lose weight before joining this site but wanted more help and support because I had reached a point that I wasn't sure if I could continue. This site provided it the extra boost to get me past the road block. The calorie counters were a blessing I was able to eat all I wanted but of healthy food. The tips were wonderful I joined kickboxing because of an article I read on this site. I changed all my habits and exercised regularly trying several new things. I have now lost a total of 110lbs and am very proud of myself. I am were I want to be and plan on staying here. I just wanted to share my story for those who are just starting out. I was at that point last year and then I came across this site and really liked it. If anyone needs help or a buddy feel free to e-mail and we will support each other. GOD BLESS ALL Kelly <kelly65441@yahoo.com> Bourbon, MO United States - Monday, July 07, 2003 at 17:15:41 (EDT) I really had no idea how much I was eating until i started to look at the Nutrition Information!!!! I just started today watching what i eat and am already surprised at the totals. Heres to everyones success..... Patrick <pjmarch@mcleodusa.net> - Monday, June 23, 2003 at 15:41:53 (EDT) I lost 3 pounds last week. I have been journaling my food and started walking. I am extremely happy! I didn't even have to do it perfectly. Just consistantly. AJ <ajbolero@hotmail.com> Austin, TX USA - Monday, June 16, 2003 at 08:50:05 (EDT) I am so embarrassed to admit this. About 12 weeks ago, I started exercising regularly after a long sedentary period due to some physical problems. Once I got the ok from the surgeon, I just started building my stamina. Now I am walking 4-6 miles a day, using a home gym for endurance training and I have also started tae bo. I exercise for at least an hour every day. That's the good news. I did not start counting calories until May 15. I had already noticed a difference from the exercise, but knew I was obese and had to stop eating freely. I have a scale, I was just terrified to step on it for so long because I knew I would hate what I saw. I can be the denial queen. Anyway, on day 2 of calories count, I stepped on the scale and to my horror I weighed 210. Now after 2.5 weeks of counting, I am down 6 pounds to 204. I am admitting this to anyone who reads this because I will not be in denial of my over eating anymore. If I acknowledge my problem, I will conquer it. Cheryl <cheryladams99@msn.com> Baltimore, MD 21237 - Monday, June 02, 2003 at 22:25:56 (EDT) I just started counting calories a week ago yesterday. I am 5'3" and began at 149, the most I ever have weighed. I'm aiming for 120, so I know I have a long way to go. However, if scales can be believed, today I weigh 143, a loss of 6 pounds in a week! I wonder if part of this isn't water weight loss...also I've had a couple of bouts with "the trots" where I felt like I lost at least a pound or two! I did go over my calorie limit a couple of days, so next week may relfect a slight gain, but I'm not letting things like that bother me. I didn't get to this weight quickly, so I can't expect to lose it all overnight. I'll do the best I can, and as Abraham Lincoln once said, "Angels can do no more." That might be a good thing for all of us to remember! Kelly Chitwood <kellychitwood@yahoo.com> - Monday, June 02, 2003 at 08:41:35 (EDT) I logged on to caloriescount.com on 12/31/02 determined to get fit and healthy but did not make it a resolution but rather a journey. I started with a BMI of 37. Being I'm only 5 ft. 4 in. you can guess I was severly overweight. On Jan.2,2003 I dared to have a fitness evaluation and body composition measurement. At that time my body fat % was 41% and today I had the evaluation repeated. I have lost 20 pounds of body fat and my body fat is 37%.Through exercise my BP and HR have decreased at rest and does not soar during exercise and my recovery HR was 96 after two minutes of rest. Maximum HR was 150 and resting HR was 84. I am here to say that the information and tracking of my intake and expenditure of energy that is part of caloriescount.com is keeping me focused and motivated to reach my goal weight of 135. I know I have a ways to go but I'm definitely on the right track and thankful for this website. To anyone struggling keep at it and you too can turn the corner to a healthy life. Victoria L. Green <rfarrel2@nycap.rr.com> South Glens Falls, New York USA - Monday, May 12, 2003 at 15:04:18 (EDT) Hi all-Honestly I haven’t lost a whole lot of weight since I have joined the sight 2 months ago…but doing the online diary has helped me keep track of everything and has motivated me to exercise. I have noticed more of a muscle gain and a fat reduction since I started the program; I know muscle weighs more than fat so I haven’t let the scale discourage me. Melissa Thornton, CO USA - Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at 16:37:12 (EDT) I just joined. I have lost 185 pounds, and was looking for some new tools to help me lose the last 15 pounds and help learn the skills needed to maintain my loss. Also seeking to improve consistency in my exercise program. I started my efforts in SAugust 2001 at 337 pounds. I now weigh 155! Lana <Beechnutlmd@aol.com> Portland, Or USA - Sunday, April 27, 2003 at 18:24:32 (EDT) I logged on to calories.com on 12-31-02 and weighed in at 210 but I had weighed 224 in November. I am very pleased to have found this web site especially since it makes me accountable for portions and food selections. To anyone that gets discouraged just keep exercising and watching portions and success will come your way. Victoria L. Green <rfarrel2@nycap.rr.com> South Glens Falls, NY USA - Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at 17:18:27 (EDT) I have been steadily trying to lose weight for over 2 years now and have tried every diet out there possible. I have been using e-diets for about a year now and their thing is if you are not losing or you have gained they decrease your calorie intake. I would lose at first and then start to gain again. The food recipes that were given were most of the time not very tasteful and I would crave sweets alot. I have been following the Calories Count method of eating 1800 cal a day and keeping a food and exercise journal. I discovered that I was not eating enough to be losing weight. I was only eating between 1300-1500 calories a day and my body was burning about 400 of those. I was always craving foods and it was very hard for me to stick to a plan. Like I said I started with Calories Count about 4 weeks ago and have lost a pound a week. I realize that it takes alot of little steps to make it to my big goal and I feel very encouraged about my progress thus far. Lisa <lmborne@yahoo.com> Millington, TN - Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at 12:48:54 (EDT) It's been 6 months since I started CaloriesCount and I've lost 14 pounds!!! First I started just counting everything I was eating. I realized that my favorites (cheese, french toast, eggs, etc) turn out to be bigger calorie spenders than I thought. So just learning how much everything "cost" was the beginning for me. I decided to keep the breakfast and lunch relatively light and make supper the largest meal of the day. Since I work at a desk all day and eat lunch there too, I got into a routine of eating a can of soup and half a bagel with margarine for lunch. It gave me the exact calories, plus lots of variety for the soups. And lots of veggies too. I just had to keep watch of the sodium content. If I have a snack at work, I usually eat an apple or an orange. I also cut out coffee completely. Then I decided to get some exercise in by walking. I usually took the bus and subway, but I started walking 30 minutes to work and 30 minutes home (only 10 minutes extra one way for the commute). There's no crowds to deal with and listening to music during the walk is a nice break between work and home. At Christmas I gained a few pounds, but more or less, I have lost about 1/2 a pound a week since I started and it hasn't been too painful. Finally, I'm realizing that all those times I managed to lose weight and then gained it all back was because I didn't learn "portion control". My eyes have always been bigger than my stomach and I've been taught to finish everything on your plate. Now I am trying to learn to limit how much I put on my plate and if I go out to eat, to cut the amount in half and leave the rest for take home. I'm still learning this part, but I am really excited that I am losing the weight! That's why I put this message up. Good luck to all of you who are doing the same. Slow but sure is the way to go! Feelgood New York, NY - Thursday, March 27, 2003 at 17:33:51 (EST) I just weighed in this morning and I had to write about my experience so far. I started this program 3 weeks ago and, for the first 3 weeks I gained weight! (5 lbs. to be exact). Yes, it was very frustrating, but I was keeping keeping at or below my ideal calorie consumption so I figured I would stick with it for 1 month. Well, this morning I got on the scale and I was 7lbs less! Lost the 5 lbs I had gained plus 2 more - finally!! I just wanted to give some encouragement to anyone else out there who has had a similar experience and to tell them to NOT GIVE UP! I still don't know exactly why I gained during the 1st 3 weeks - who knows maybe my body was rejecting my new healthy diet and exercise mode! (I live in Wisconsin where cheese and beer rules!) But, nonetheless, I stuck with it and I'm finally seeing results. I feel great, have lots of energy and I'm looking forward to the summer where, hopefully, I will have met my goal! (I want to lose 30 lbs.) Lori <lori_laufen@mailbag.com> Madison, WI USA - Wednesday, March 05, 2003 at 09:09:46 (EST) I'm only at the end of my first month, but I am so pleased with my progress I wanted to add something here. I weighed in at 301 pounds at the start and felt very daunted at how much I have to lose. But I developed my own eating plan (using the recommended plans as a guide to how to distribute different food groups, but choosing my own preferred foods) and have counted calories meticulously so that I stick to a very generous 1, 800 calories a day diet. I've lost 27lbs already and although I know progress is bound to be slow and steady from hereon,it has been such a boost to lose a good chunk of weight early on. I think the simple philosophy that all foods can be reduced to a calorific value and you simply have x a day is freeing. I think for too long I've lived with the idea that there are 'good' and 'bad' foods and that has kept me bingeing and dieting for years. Over the last month I have learnt to eat my 'bingey' foods in moderation whilst staying within my calorie limit for the day and eating an otherwise healthy plan. It's going to take some getting used to, but I can honestly say I have not once felt deprived because of this shift in thinking and I think that will be the recipe for my success. Thanks to the advice and tools on this site I will hopefully enjoy more success to come and I very much look forward to posting again to keep you informed. Rosey <rosey@scanlon.freeserve.com> London, - Monday, February 17, 2003 at 14:04:08 (EST) I started Caloriescount.com on Jan 8,2003. I am 5' 5" and my start weight was 159, I am married, have 2 children, work fulltime and go to school part time. I bought my first step areobics tape and did the first segment for 5 days a week (25min total with warm up, I have watched more commercials in a day)and now my energy has increase and thighs are slimming. I have lost 15 lbs and I am beginning to feel good about summer coming on. Thank you caloriescount.com for giving me the motivation and information on eating healthly and changing my life style..... My tip is...keep in mind 20 mins in a single day, is usually the time you spend in line at the bank or grocery store....just get an egg timmer and walk up and down the stairs for that long....or do squats during commercials of your favorite tv shows...it seems to help a bunch...and for the sweet tooth, try a bowl of huney nut O's and skim milk...works great and is filling. :-) Amy <andersharp@netscape.net> memphis, tn - Monday, February 03, 2003 at 12:02:20 (EST) I am a single mom/fulltime student and this past november weighed 320lbs (my heaviest)! This morning I weighed and am down to 295lbs!!! that's 25lbs gone! I am truly motivated to a new lifestyle change and caloriescount.com has been my stepping stone for learning to eat better. I feel great and looking forward to posting the next 25lbs! dannette <dannette@ev1.net> Tomball, Tx USA - Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at 21:48:33 (EST) I am a 6'1" male, I weighed 244lbs on Oct 11, 2002. Today I weighed in at 191 -- I've joined CaloriesCount.com as a first step towards successful transition into maintenance mode. Ben Pratt <ben.pratt@cox.com> - Tuesday, January 28, 2003 at 14:52:30 (EST) I am a 5'8" female, 40 years old. I weighed 154 lbs on jan 1, 2003. I am now 139 lbs thanks to Calories count.com!!!!!!!!!! 27 days and I have lost 15 lbs. I combined counting calories with the online food diary, with moderate exercise and am feeling great!! Thanks Staff penny wenger <pdwenger@comcast.net> plymouth, mi usa - Monday, January 27, 2003 at 01:42:28 (EST) Lost another 3 pounds!!! I got on the scale Thursday and I hadn't lost anything. So I buckled down, really started drinking water and tried to keep the fat down even more. Two days later, I lost 3 more lbs. I've never been so motivated. I took it easy on myself a couple days and just tried to equal the calorie count and fat count. Come in under it if you can, as long as you're satisfied and not hungry. Todd M <tkm3@everestkc.net> Overland Park, KS USA - Sunday, January 26, 2003 at 15:57:07 (EST) I've lost 8 lbs since beginning my 2000 calorie Convenience diet. Eating several smaller meals really helps. I've yet to be hungry or overly full. The best thing is I still know there is more I can do. I can drink more water, work more fruits and veggies into my diet, and increase my amount of exercise, which is pretty little next to housework right now. The possibilities are endless!!! Todd M <tkm3@everestkc.net> Overland Park, KS USA - Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at 23:40:02 (EST) I've lost about five pounds and have started to get back into my exercise routine. Although I have a pretty busy schedule, I've decided to make exercise a priority. I'm trying to do between 3 and 5 days for at least 30 minutes if not more. And, I'm trying to be more active overall. Although I do want to lose a few more pounds and tone up (my family is going to Bermuda in August and I want to look good in the pics.), I am focusing on becoming an overall healtheir person so that I can be very active even as I get older. Good luck to everyone. M. Elizabeth Anniston, FL US - Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at 09:12:37 (EST) I used Caloriecount.com to keep track of what I put into my mouth. I am 52 and lost 88 pounds of fat 2 years ago. I slowly put 34 pounds back on. I put the brakes on and found this site to help me with the new attack on my fat cells. In less than 4 weeks, I have lost as of today 11 pounds! I have been full and not starving by choosing a low fat diet. I exercise on Tony Little's Gazelle for only 30 minutes 3 days per week as I have health conditions that exercise makes worse. I love this site except that they don't have a fat gram totalin the final tally for a week in review. I hate being overweight and finally admitt that once a fat girl always a fat girl even though I can't see it. In other words, I can't ever eat like a pig and keep the weight off!!! I have learned my lesson this time after years of YOYO dieting. I am going to keep my low fat and moderation eating plan going for the rest of my life. I know now that I can stay trim and slim if I do this for myself. Chil <chil@sbcglobal.net> Topeka, KS USA - Thursday, December 05, 2002 at 11:17:44 (EST) Through my whole adult life (I'm 44), I've been on an approximately annual cycle: I eat as I wish and, over a period of eight to 14 months, I slowly gain weight until I am about 12 to 20 pounds up. Then I say, "That's enough!" and I go on a very restricted calorie diet and take the weight off over a six to eight week period. I've always been miserable when dieting, feeling deprived and hungry, yet happy to be losing weight. I've been miserable when gaining weight, yet happy to be enjoying foods I like and not to be hungry. It's difficult to explain the "light bulb" effect CaloriesCount.com has had on me. When I entered my high weight in the Diet Assessment calculator, I learned how many calories I'd been eating per day to maintain that weight. When I entered the weight I want to be (about 20 lbs. less),I learned the difference in calories is only 200 average per day! You mean I only have to reduce my typical day's eating by 200 calories to maintain the weight I want to be?!? That's nothing - a glass of wine and a cookie!! You mean I don't have to starve myself and be cranky for two months of every year??? I just have to pay a little closer attention to what I eat on a daily basis!?! After my light bulb moment I spent three weeks recording everything I put in my mouth without changing my diet, and found I was, in fact, eating exactly what the calculator told me I was. I decided to reduce calories by 400 per day and increase my regular exercise routine by 100 per day for as long as it takes to get to my goal weight. It's been 10 weeks and I've lost 10 pounds!! By using all of the calculators on CaloriesCount.com, I can easily monitor what I take in and what I burn up and keep track of how I'm doing. I'm eating all the foods I enjoy - just monitoring quantities a little better. I'm not hungry and I feel great! It's no exaggeration to say CaloriesCount.com has changed my life. Thank you, and I'll keep you posted! Karen Aiken, SC 29803 - Friday, October 04, 2002 at 12:58:23 (EDT) I've been using CaloriesCount.com since April. Recently I had a physical with my doctor. She took one look at me, looked at my chart, and asked if I'd lost weight on purpose! I said yes, and she asked how I'd done it. When I explained that I'd lost the weight "the natural way", by counting my calories and increasing my exercise ("with the help of on-line assistance at www.caloriescount.com") she said I should be the posterchild for weight loss! I've lost 28 pounds so far, and am within 12 pounds of my goal weight. The weight's not coming off as fast the closer I get to my goal, but I'm not giving up! I hope to be at my goal weight by Thanksgiving! THANKS CaloriesCount! Gip KS USA - Monday, September 16, 2002 at 14:06:23 (EDT) I've lost 10 lbs in 6.5 weeks, I'm power walking 45 minutes per day, 7 days per week, and I'm eating around 1300-1400 calories a day. But what I'm really finding is helpful is that I am never turning down certain foods. I am eating in moderation. I went out to dinner at a friend's last week. There was wine. I had 2 glasses (nursing them a bit longer than the other guests). There was a rich dessert with whipped cream. I took a very small slice and passed on the cream. I did not draw attention to any of this and no one noticed. I find that I do better if I don't tell people that I'm trying to lose weight, or I'm on a diet. Sometimes I'll even tell a little white lie(people bring baking into the office and ask me if I've tried it - and I haven't, I'll just say "doesn't it look fabulous".) That way I don't get pressured to eat things. Maybe some people do better getting support when they reveal that they're "dieting", but I do better without all the scrutiny. I'm not feeling deprived and I'm feeling sensational as a matter of fact. Half way to my 20 lb goal. Have fun everyone. Life's gonna be too short if we don't lose some of that weight! Sue Vancouver, BC Canada - Friday, September 13, 2002 at 15:02:04 (EDT) I was obsessed with exercise when I was growing up and had a pretty decent figure, but at that time I also ate quite a bit of food. I didn't realize that when I became an adult and was not able to be quite as active that the weight would just pile on my 5'6" frame until I reached 248 lbs, After ten years and many failed attempts I finally lost a 104 pounds and felt terrific, however I think I was again under another false belief that I could easily stay there, wrong wrong wrong! I have put back on 50 pounds of what I lost and now I am once again working it off, I just wanted others to know that if you reach a goal do not take it for granted you will probably always have to work at it but the rewards of being fit and not obese definately outway the focus you will have to keep for your lifetime!! I simply let my success get away from me and now I know I have to take care of myself first before I can handle the everday stresses of life. Control your life don't let it control you and goodluck and godspeed to everyone struggling with unwanted pounds!! Michelle MI USA - Monday, August 19, 2002 at 15:18:56 (EDT) I promised to check in again after my next 10 pounds, well it's been 12 more! I am now within 16 pounds of my goal weight! I'm still exercising 4-5 days per week, but varying my routine more. I eat around 1600 calories/day and am discovering wonderful recipes with chicken (my favorite food) and wonderfully lowfat snacks (animal crackers, applesauce, fig newtons etc). And I count EVERY calorie - want to know how many calories are in one Starburst?!! If I can do this - anyone can. I used to be Miss UNmotivated - now everytime my husband makes a comment about my tightening abs (not tight, but tightening!), or being able to watch my muscles work - I try all the harder! Good Luck and GOD BLESS!! Gip KS - Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at 12:30:33 (EDT) Caloriescount.com has changed my life! I was first introduced to this website in March 2002. At that time I was frustrated and disgusted with my life because I had been unsuccessful at losing weight for more than 5 years. I didn't last more than 2-3 days on any given number of diets I tried. One day in March 2002 I received an e-mail from our state Office of Nutrition listing websites designed to help individuals lose weight. The first day I visited the website I was hooked and ended up joining. I officially started making lifestyle changes and keeping a food diary on April 10th. To date I have lost 48 pounds and have not felt deprived one bit. I keep my calorie count between 1200-1800 Calories...some days it's just hard for me to eat 1800 calories. I'm also watching my fat grams because I have elevated cholesterol. Exercise has become as part of my daily routine and I'm actually enjoying it. My story is not over...I still have quite a few more pounds to lose, but I'm getting there one day at a time. With the help of caloriescount.com I know I can make it. If I can succeed at this program, anyone can do it. Success is within the reach of all of us who stay focused, stay motivated and decide that we can't win without making positive long term changes in our lives. JoAnn GA - Friday, July 26, 2002 at 13:21:06 (EDT) Tonight I weighed in at my support group and found that I had lost 3.2 pounds this week. I am thrilled and amazed! I am drinking more water, cutting back on tea and coffee, and finding healthier food to eat. Plus, my husband and I have become exercise buddies. It is so much more fun to have a partner in this business! Cheryl Lawler <chlawler@yahoo.com> Renton, WA USA - Monday, July 15, 2002 at 22:24:21 (EDT) I have lost 4.2 pounds since 6/24. I think I finally understand that I have a control issue. I have been "out of control" with my eating in the past. I can not TAKE CONTROL by making better, healthier choices. It doesn't have to be boring. I have a group of friends who are also working on changing and this helps. This website is also a real encouragement. I especially enjoy the online food diary. Cheryl Lawler <chlawler@yahoo.com> Renton, WA USA - Thursday, July 11, 2002 at 21:45:20 (EDT) I've lost 10lbs and 1 inch from my waist in 32 days. I'm 68 years old. It's not all that easy, but I love the results Chuck Allen <arondack@aol.com> Highland, Md USA - Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at 00:08:28 (EDT) I HAVE BEEN OVERWEIGHT MOST OF MY LIFE BUT THE PAST 20 YRS I HAD GAINED A TOTAL OF 150LBS. FINALLY I DID THE DR. ATKINS DIET FOR A FEW MONTHS AND LOST 20 LBS, THEN I STARTED EATING HEALTY & LOST ANOTHER 10LBS. AFTER THAT I REACHED A PLATEAU. SO I DECIDED TO JOIN A LOCAL GYM AND STARTED WORKING OUT. (TREADMILL, STATIONARY BIKE, WEIGHT LIFTING) & LOST A TOTAL OF 55LBS SINCE NOVEMBER 2001. I AM VERY PROUD OF MYSELF. I STARTED WEIGHING 293LBS & I'M DOWN TO TO 235LBS. I NEED TO LOOSE ANOTHER 100 LBS. I AM A FEMALE, 49YRS OLD AND I AM 5FT 1INCHES. WISH ME GOOD LUCK. I ALSO WISH GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE WHO TRIES TO LOOSE WEIGHT SO THAT THEY CAN GET HEALTHY AND LOOK GREAT. ALSO I'D LIKE TO SHARE ONE MORE THING. I WAS DIABETIC ON 2 DIABETIC MEDICATIONS AND MY DOCTOR TOOK ME OUT OF THESE MEDICATIONS SINCE I HAVE LOST ALL THIS WEIGHT!!! MOSCA A CHRISTOU <KYRATOUFEGGARIOU@AOL.COM> STREETSBORO, OH 44241 - Thursday, June 20, 2002 at 06:42:47 (EDT) Just about the same time I found this site on Monday, I talked to a friend who is using a different program that seems to drastically restrict some good-for-you foods (like whole wheat bread). And this is, apparently, for life if you want to keep the pounds off. That isn't real life. But as I've read the posts here and made use of the calculators, I'm finding that I can eat more volume but stay within my calorie range, AND still eat the foods I like. My failure yesterday at a buffet (I overate but didn't have any dessert) was offset by my success today. I only consumed 1400 calories but I haven't felt the least bit hungry! My tip has to do with exercise. I used to walk on the treadmill a half hour at 80% of my max heartrate. But I've learned about the importance of burning fat and not sugar, and how oxygen plays such an important role in that process of burning fat. So I slowed down to 65% of max, and instead of regular breathing, I breathe very deeply for the hour I walk. Oxygen added to a fire makes it burn brighter. Our metabolism is much the same. So breathe deeply! Julie in windy Washington Julie <thorny@bentonrea.com> WA - Thursday, June 06, 2002 at 22:46:43 (EDT) I have been searching for calculators for calorie either from food or workout. I should now be more in control of my daily calorie intake and inevitably my weight! Hasanah <drhasanah@yahoo.com> Kota Bharu, Kelantan Malaysia - Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at 00:10:56 (EDT) I hit my first 30! As you all know, as you all have been there and maybe still are, the lifestyle change is no easy task. Anyway, it has been a few months and if I recall I was never more crabby than week #2, but I have noticed a dramatic change in my cravings and am pleased to announce to the world, I have taken off my first 30lbs. Everybody, keep it up, and keep it off! North-of-55 <shabas99@hotmail.com> Thompson, Mb Canada - Tuesday, May 21, 2002 at 20:23:04 (EDT) After 3 kids I plateued at 168 pounds. My husband never complained, my kids never complained, and for awhile I just thought I'd get used to it. However, it was just too much when I started getting winded playing with the kids - so I decided I needed to be healthier. Calories Count has helped me see that I can still eat plenty of food and not be hungry, I just need to eat the right kinds of food! I am now best friends with popcorn! Talk about a low-calorie food that will fill you up! No more potato chips for me! I started eating healthier and exercising 3-5 times a week March 1 - I have only lost 10 pounds since then, but I'm a dress-size smaller! My husband keeps reminding me that muscle weighs more than fat, and that by exercising I'm gaining more muscle, but it will still be nice when the scale starts to move again! My advice? Water, water, water - and NEVER wait until you're really hungry to eat, you'll tend to over do it. Don't eat just because it's time, but eat when you start to feel hungry, and just enough to satiate. GOOD LUCK - I'll be checking in again when I lose another 10 pounds! Crystal M <malchose@ci.manhattan.ks.us> Wamego, KS USA - Friday, May 10, 2002 at 12:12:24 (EDT) I just started my "bathing suit-inspired" diet and am using the 1600 Meal Plans (THANK YOU for the variety, making it so easy to control my calories, AND for not making me eat replacement meals or shakes!!). I use the Calorie Calculator regularly when I go off the Meal Plan (my family goes out for dinner quite a bit) -- I just make the adjustments as I go so that if I go over a little one day I cut back the next. This is really teaching me how to eat better w/o feeling like I'm sacrificing. ALSO, I just spent last week on vacation at thebeach -- my goal was to just MAINTAIN my weight and I did it. Now it's back to controlling calories and Jazzercise 3-4 times per week. I recommend the meal plans to all of you, and wish you the very best! Marie Driscoll <chicagomtg@mindspring.com> Dunwoody, GA USA - Saturday, April 13, 2002 at 15:41:49 (EDT) This site has actually helped me to lose almost 20 lbs because now I don't just eat because of emotions but rather to help my body. Watching the calories and fat in your diet can help you control your wieght but always remember to exercise. Try Tae BO it worked for me! Meghan Mason, USA I've been using this site now for two months, and have found it to be crucial in loosing weight that I had been struggling with for years! It's true, most of the time, we don't even know what we're feeding ourselves...can you believe a starbucks coffee (venti) can equal close to 600 calories!!!!!!!!!!! Looking at labels has given me the power to CONTROL my weight and CONTROL my health. THANK YOU CALORIE CONTROL. My tip is to not get anxious over loosing weight because this anxiety usually leads to splurging on the wrong foods. If anything, practice RELAXING so that your need to eat junk lessens! Jeanette Washington, D.C. I've lost 20 months!! Here's the secret: lots of exercise, lots of fruits and vegetables and lots of water! That's it. I didn't believe it at first, but it works. Calorie Control helped with the Weight Maintenance and Exercise Calculators; Thanks! Rhonda New York, NY Great site! I just found this site and I am determined and motivated. Cyndy Rochester, NY Thanks for this website! I've turned to so many fads and quick fixes that have left me unhappy and very overweight. I think with this kind of support and info I really can do this! Ann USA I have lost 15 pounds since when I started counting calories and I feel great!!! Counting calories does work. Be sure to give yourself one day off to eat a reasonable portion of two of your favorite foods and you will never feel deprived. Ruthie Payne wolfcub1975@aol.com Somerset, Ky USA First thanks froo this website it has helped me everyday. I am 40 yr old male and I'm seeing dramatic resutls. I have used diet and excersize, Also drank lots of water . This website has helped me everyday. thanks for everything. Gerald Cowperthwait Fruitland , id I to have found just how important it is to know how many calories something has. It makes a whole world of differnce when you know that one meal can mean over half of your daily intake. I make sure that I stay within my budget even if it means being hungry. Believe it or not many times we mistake hunger for thirst. I find that buying bottled water helps a lot. It lets you keep track of how much water you intake in a day and it curbs your hunger. If I eat out, I usually know where it is going to be so I have an idea of what I am going to order. I go to the counter and put in what I will have and I know before I go just how many calories I am having. This is great, it allows me to pick and choose when I get there. To everyone that help make this possible I thank you. My goal is to loose 20 more pounds and I know with the help of the calculators and tools it is possible. Thank You and God Bless, Kim Kim Walkerville, MI This is the very best site for practical information I have found on the Net. I love using the different calculators to determine calories in food, calories burned by different exercise and body mass index. My best ways of losing or maintaining weight are to not try anything too strict. I find foods that I like that are relatively good for me & eat them more often. Exercise decreases your appetite & so does drinking a lot of water. It's more simple than people realize. It's also pretty tough & so it's OK to forget it sometimes & just eat whatever every now & then.... Shawna Hopkins Elkhorn City, KY I found this site two weeks ago, 1 week after starting a diet -- this site is a God Send. Thank you someone. I've lost three pounds each week and am inspired and motivated to keep going. I plan each day, each morning and recalculate if a "surprise" circumstance means I must vary from the original daily plan. I've been able to keep my fat grams right around 20% on a daily basis and on two special occasion days still managed to stay under 30% by planning. This is awesome. Lily Joy Chicago, IL Great site! This is just what I needed to get a jump start on my diet! Thankyou so much for creating this site and I hope that you will keep it going for a LONG time! Marcella Indiana, IN I'm 6'/28/m and my weight got as high as 237. I was tired of hearing everyone tell me that I didn't look fat, because I knew I was. I went on a vacation with my wife, and before we left I needed to buy a pair of size 40" pants to be comfortable and look nice. I also told myself that they would be the ONLY pair of 40's I would buy and that when the vacation was over, things had to change and that I would weigh 185 by 6/1/02. That was in 9/01. We joined the Y, (try to go 4x/week) where I do weights/swimming/ treadmill; we began to eat better without any fad diets or drastic changes (no pizza/sandwich shop/fast food for lunch everyday, though!). This morning I weighed in at 194, and I've been dissappointed in that I don't feel like I look all that great yet, so the purpose of my entry is to caution all to avoid making large arbitrary goal declarations like mine and stick to chipping away/setting small goals. My goal (185 by 6/1) shouldn't be too hard to reach, but I have a feeling when I get there I'll have to set a new goal, and I'm OK with that! Can't wait to strut around in my bathing suit....SHIRTLESS! Read this quote in someone else's entry, thought it was good enough to copy and paste in again in case you missed it the 1st time: "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels." Amen to that. -dh, wearer of (today) 36" pants David Hahn Ardmore, PA USA Legal Disclaimer: While the CaloriesCount.com makes every effort to include the most accurate and up-to-date information on this Web site, it makes no representations, and takes no responsibility for, the accuracy, timeliness or completeness of information provided in the Brag Board. |
